Soframycin Cream is an antibiotic cream used to treat bacterial skin infections, including infected cuts, wounds and minor burns, boils and impetigo. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing framycetin, and belongs to a class of medicines called aminoglycoside antibiotics.
This medicine works by killing the bacteria on the skin and stopping them from growing and spreading, which helps the infection clear. Apply it to the affected area exactly as your doctor directs, and complete the full course advised even if the skin looks healed. It is for external use only.
Keeping the affected area clean and dry, covering open wounds with a clean dressing as advised and avoiding sharing towels or clothing can support healing alongside this cream.
Before using this medicine, tell your doctor if you have a known allergy to framycetin or similar antibiotics, if you have kidney or hearing problems, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Antibiotics treat bacterial infections only, and using them when not needed can lead to antibiotic resistance. Avoid use over large areas or for long periods, and keep it away from your eyes, mouth and nose.
