CompositionSatrogyl O Tablet is used to treat diarrhoea and dysentery caused by mixed bacterial and protozoal infections of the gut. It is a combination medicine containing satranidazole, an antiprotozoal medicine, and ofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic.
This medicine is also used to treat amoebic dysentery and other gut infections in which both bacteria and parasites may be involved. It acts against the germs causing the infection, helping to reduce loose stools and stomach cramps. Take it in the dose and for the full course prescribed by your doctor, even if you start to feel better early.
Drinking oral rehydration solution (ORS) and plenty of clean, safe fluids helps replace the water and salts lost through loose stools. Eating light, easily digested food and washing your hands well can support recovery and help stop the infection spreading.
Before starting this medicine, tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease, epilepsy, a history of tendon problems or a heart rhythm problem, and about any other medicines you take. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Avoid alcohol during treatment. Report tendon pain, severe or bloody diarrhoea, or any serious side effect to your doctor. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
