It combines budesonide, a corticosteroid, with formoterol, a long-acting bronchodilator, and helps control symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, breathlessness and chest tightness.
Budesonide reduces inflammation in the airways, helping to prevent asthma and COPD flare-ups over time, while formoterol relaxes the muscles around the airways to widen them and ease breathing.
Use this pulmicap only with the appropriate inhaler device, as your doctor prescribes, usually twice daily, and rinse your mouth with water after each use to help prevent oral thrush. Use it regularly even when you feel well, and do not stop using it abruptly.
Do not stop this medicine on your own, even if you feel well, as it works to control inflammation over time and stopping can lead to worsening asthma or COPD. Keep a fast-acting reliever inhaler available for sudden breathlessness.
