CompositionPentaloc IV Injection is used in hospital to treat severe acid-related conditions such as gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcers and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, particularly when medicines by mouth cannot be tolerated or a rapid reduction in stomach acid is needed. It contains pantoprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI).
It is given by a healthcare professional as a slow injection or drip, usually for a short period until you can switch to tablets. Reducing stomach acid in this way allows the food pipe and stomach lining to heal.
Once you switch to oral treatment, avoiding spicy or fatty foods, alcohol and smoking, and eating smaller, more frequent meals can help support healing of the stomach and food pipe.
Tell your doctor if you have severe liver disease or low magnesium levels before treatment, and about any other medicines you take. Report muscle cramps, spasms or an irregular heartbeat, which may signal low magnesium with longer use.
