CompositionOlmat 20 Tablet 10 is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It is a single-ingredient medicine containing olmesartan medoxomil, which belongs to a class of medicines called angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs).
This medicine relaxes and widens the blood vessels so blood pressure falls, which over time lowers the risk of heart attack, stroke and kidney damage linked to high blood pressure. Take it at the same time, with or without food, and keep taking it even when you feel well, as high blood pressure usually has no symptoms.
Reducing salt, eating plenty of fruit and vegetables, staying active, keeping a healthy weight, limiting alcohol and not smoking all help lower blood pressure alongside this medicine.
Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, as it can harm an unborn baby; tell your doctor straight away if you become pregnant. Before starting, tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, narrowing of the kidney arteries, high potassium levels, or dehydration, and about other medicines you take, especially potassium supplements, water tablets or painkillers. Your doctor may check your kidney function and potassium. Report severe, long-lasting diarrhoea with weight loss, or feeling faint. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
