Maxtra Oral Drops is used to relieve symptoms of the common cold and allergies in children, such as a blocked or runny nose, sneezing and watery eyes. It is a combination medicine containing phenylephrine, a nasal decongestant, and chlorpheniramine, an antihistamine (anti-allergic).
This medicine is also used to ease nasal and sinus congestion and itching of the nose or throat. The drops are given by mouth. Give your child the dose prescribed by the doctor using the dropper provided, and do not give it for longer than advised.
Making sure your child drinks enough fluids and rests well supports recovery. Keeping your child away from smoke and dust may also ease symptoms.
This medicine should not be used in children below 4 years of age. Before giving it, tell the doctor if your child has heart, thyroid, liver or kidney problems, diabetes or epilepsy, and about any other medicines your child takes, including other cold or allergy remedies. It may make your child drowsy. Contact the doctor if your child has a fast heartbeat, unusual excitement or trouble sleeping, or symptoms that do not improve. Do not stop giving this medicine unless the doctor advises you to do so.
