Composition

Metformin (500 Mg) + Saxagliptin (5 Mg)

Kombiglyze Xr 5mg/500mg Tablet 7 is used in adults as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycaemic control in type 2 diabetes mellitus when treatment with both saxagliptin and metformin is considered appropriate. This medicine belongs to the therapeutic class of oral antidiabetic agents.

This medication is intended to be used along with a proper diet and exercise regimen to achieve better glucose control. It may be prescribed alone or in combination with other antidiabetic medications.

It is not suitable for patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus or diabetic ketoacidosis. Breastfeeding

Metformin is excreted in breast milk in small amounts, and it is not known whether saxagliptin passes into breast milk. Use of this tablet during breastfeeding is not recommended unless advised by your doctor.

Alcohol

Alcohol increases the risk of lactic acidosis when taken with metformin. Avoid excessive alcohol intake while using Kombiglyze Xr 5mg/500mg Tablet 7.

Liver

Kombiglyze Xr 5mg/500mg Tablet 7 is not recommended in patients with significant liver impairment, as this increases the risk of lactic acidosis. Inform your doctor of any liver problems.

Kidney

Metformin is eliminated through the kidneys. It is contraindicated in patients with kidney impairment or reduced kidney function. Regular monitoring of renal parameters is required.

Use In Driving And Operating Machinery

Kombiglyze Xr 5mg/500mg Tablet 7 may cause dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision. Do not drive, cycle, or operate heavy machinery if affected.

Allergy

Do not use Kombiglyze Xr 5mg/500mg Tablet 7 if you are allergic to metformin, saxagliptin, or any excipients. Stop the medicine immediately if you develop rash, swelling, difficulty in breathing, or other allergy symptoms.

Children

Kombiglyze Xr 5mg/500mg Tablet 7 is not recommended in children and adolescents below 18 years of age

Older Patients

Elderly patients may be more prone to reduced kidney function and should be closely monitored. Dose adjustments may be required.

Potent CYP3A4/5 inhibitors such as ketoconazole, ritonavir, clarithromycin: The concomitant use may increase saxagliptin levels.
Diabetes medications, such as Insulin or sulfonylureas: The concomitant use may cause low blood sugar levels.

Drug-Disease Interactions

Kombiglyze Xr 5mg/500mg Tablet 7 may interact with the following conditions:

Heart failure: Saxagliptin may increase the risk of heart failure. Use cautiously in patients with cardiac disease.
Pancreatitis: Cases have been reported with saxagliptin. Discontinue immediately if pancreatitis is suspected.

Daily Dose

The daily dose of Kombiglyze Xr 5mg/500mg Tablet 7 should be as prescribed by your doctor. The dosage may vary based on individual factors such as the severity of your kidney condition and your response to the medicine. Always follow the prescribed dosage and never exceed it without consulting your doctor.

Over Dose

Overdose of Kombiglyze Xr 5mg/500mg Tablet 7 may cause lactic acidosis (rare but serious), hypoglycaemia, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, rapid breathing, or altered consciousness. Immediate medical care and hospitalisation are required if overdose is suspected.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one.
