Glyciphage SR 1000 Tablet is used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults who have not achieved adequate blood sugar control with diet and exercise alone. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing metformin in a sustained-release form, and belongs to a class of medicines called biguanides.
The sustained-release form allows this tablet to be taken less often, making it a convenient option. Swallow the tablet whole with a meal, as prescribed, and continue taking it regularly for as long as your doctor recommends. Use the dose, frequency and duration prescribed by your doctor.
Following a controlled carbohydrate diet, eating regular meals and staying physically active as advised by your doctor can help improve blood sugar control alongside this medicine.
Tell your doctor if you have any kidney or liver problems or heart failure, or are due to have a scan involving contrast dye, before starting this medicine, and about any other medicines, supplements or herbal products you take. Speak to your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding. Your doctor may check your vitamin B12 levels during long-term treatment. Report persistent vomiting, stomach pain or unusual tiredness promptly, and report any side effects that persist or become serious. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
