Genticyn 0.3% Eye Drops is used to treat bacterial infections of the eye, such as bacterial conjunctivitis. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing gentamicin, which belongs to a class of antibiotics called aminoglycosides.
This medicine is also used to treat other bacterial infections on the surface of the eye, such as infection of the eyelid edges (blepharitis) and of the cornea (keratitis). It does not work against viral or fungal eye infections. Wash your hands, tilt your head back, gently pull down the lower eyelid and put the drops in as directed by your doctor. Do not let the dropper tip touch your eye or any other surface.
Avoid rubbing your eyes, wash your hands often, and do not share towels, pillows or eye make-up while you have an infection. Avoid wearing contact lenses until your doctor says the infection has cleared.
Before using this medicine, tell your doctor about any allergy to antibiotics, other eye conditions, and any other eye drops or medicines you use. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you use other eye drops, leave a few minutes between them. Contact your doctor if your eye becomes more painful or red, your vision changes, or the infection does not improve within a few days. Do not stop using this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
