CompositionEppen 4 Tablet 10 is used to control focal-onset (partial) seizures, with or without spreading to both sides of the brain, and primary generalised tonic-clonic seizures in people with epilepsy. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing perampanel 4mg, which belongs to a class of medicines called antiepileptics (AMPA receptor antagonists).
This medicine is usually added to other epilepsy medicines when seizures are not fully controlled. It blocks a chemical messenger (glutamate) that can trigger seizures. Take it once a day at bedtime, with or without food; your doctor will start with a low dose and increase it slowly.
Keeping regular sleep, avoiding alcohol and never missing doses help control seizures. Keep a seizure diary to share with your doctor.
This medicine can cause serious changes in mood and behaviour, including aggression, hostility, anger and, rarely, thoughts of harming yourself or others; family members should watch for these and tell the doctor straight away. Do not stop taking it suddenly. It commonly causes dizziness and unsteadiness, which can lead to falls, so do not drive until you know how it affects you, and avoid alcohol. Before starting, tell your doctor about liver or kidney disease, mental health problems, and other medicines you take, especially carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine and hormonal contraceptives, as higher doses can make the pill less effective. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
