Composition

Dutasteride (0.5 Mg)

Dutawin Tablet 10 is used to treat the urinary symptoms of an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia) in men, easing a weak stream, difficulty starting to urinate and incomplete emptying, and, over time, shrinking the prostate so surgery may be less likely.

It contains dutasteride, a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor. It works by lowering the hormone (DHT) that makes the prostate grow.

Take it once a day, with or without food, and swallow it whole. It may take several months to see the full benefit.

This medicine can affect PSA blood tests, so tell any doctor you take it. Women who are or may become pregnant must not handle the capsules, as the medicine can be absorbed through the skin. Report changes in sexual function, or breast tenderness or lumps.

Dutawin Tablet 10 is used for an enlarged prostate in men.

Uses of Dutawin Tablet 10 are:

Enlarged Prostate: Relieves urinary symptoms of an enlarged prostate.
Urine Flow: Helps improve a weak stream and difficulty passing urine.
Prostate Size: Shrinks the prostate over time.

Take Dutawin Tablet 10 with a glass of water.
Swallow the tablet as a whole; do not crush or chew it.
This medication should be taken preferably with meals.
It is recommended that this medicine be taken at a fixed daily time.

Dutawin Tablet 10 should be taken orally.

Dutawin Tablet 10 may cause side effects, but not everyone gets them.

Sexual: Changes in sexual function, such as reduced desire.
Hormonal: Breast tenderness or enlargement.

Dutasteride (0.5 mg): It is a 5 alpha-reductase inhibitor that works by inhibition of both type 1 and 2 of 5-alpha reductase. It is responsible for the conversion of testosterone to 5-alpha dihydrotestosterone. It is responsible for the initial development and subsequent enlargement of the prostate gland.

Avoid alcohol consumption while on this medicine as it can aggravate the orthostatic hypotension caused by this medicine.

Liver

Kidney

Dutawin Tablet 10 should not be given to patients with severe kidney disease or impairment. Dose adjustment is needed for mild to moderate kidney disease after consultation with a doctor.

Use In Driving And Operating Machinery

Dutawin Tablet 10 can cause postural hypotension and dizziness, which can impair driving and machine operating capability. Refrain from such activities while you are taking this medication.

Allergy

If you are allergic to this medicine or any of its constituents, then do not take it.

Children

Dutawin Tablet 10 is not indicated for use in paediatric patients (<18 years of age)

Older Patients

Dutawin Tablet 10 is to be used with caution in elderly patients with liver or kidney disease as they usually need dose adjustment after consultation from a doctor.

Drug-Drug Interactions

Dutawin Tablet 10 can interact with the following medicines:

Antifungals like itraconazole and ketoconazole should not be taken with this medicine as they may increase its effect.
Blood pressure-lowering medicines like verapamil and diltiazem can aggravate orthostatic hypotension caused by this medicine.
Antivirals like ritonavir decrease the metabolism of this medicine and increase its effects and side effects.
Immune-suppressing medicines like cyclosporine should not be given with this medicine.
Antibiotics like clarithromycin and erythromycin- should not be used with this medicine.
Erectile dysfunction medicines like tadalafil and sildenafil (PDE-5 inhibitors) increase the side effects, such as orthostatic hypotension, dizziness, etc.

Drug-Food Interactions

Dutawin Tablet 10 interacts with high-fat or moderate-calorie meals as its consumption can reduce the plasma concentration of this medicine and thus reduce its effect.

Drug-Disease Interactions

Dutawin Tablet 10 interacts with the following diseases:

Severe kidney diseases: This medicine can aggravate the disease.
Severe liver diseases: This tablet can worsen the disease.

Daily Dose

The daily dose of Dutawin Tablet 10 should be taken as prescribed by your doctor. The dosage may change based on individual factors such as the severity of the condition and response to treatment. It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and not exceed it without consulting your doctor.

Over Dose

In case of anticipated eye surgery for cataracts or glaucoma, inform the doctor about your consumption of this medicine.
Get your PSA (Prostate-specific antigen) levels checked regularly to rule out the development of cancer in the prostate gland as well as to document improvement in Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia.
