Composition

Loperamide (1.5 Mg) + Metronidazole (200 Mg)

Diaraheal Plus Tablet 10 is used to treat infectious diarrhoea and associated intestinal symptoms caused by susceptible microorganisms. It is a combination medicine that belongs to the class of antidiarrhoeal and antiprotozoal medicines.

This medicine may also be prescribed to help manage loose stools, abdominal cramps, stomach discomfort, bloating, and intestinal infections associated with susceptible bacteria or protozoa.

Inform your doctor before starting this medicine if you have liver disease, kidney disease, intestinal disorders, nerve-related disorders, bloody diarrhoea, fever-associated diarrhoea, or are taking other medicines. Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor and continue taking it for the advised duration, even if symptoms improve early, to help reduce the risk of recurrence or incomplete infection control.

Follow these instructions while taking Diaraheal Plus Tablet 10:

Take the tablet exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Swallow the tablet whole with water.
Take this medicine after food to help reduce stomach discomfort.
Complete the full duration of treatment advised by your doctor.

Diaraheal Plus Tablet 10 is taken orally.

Diaraheal Plus Tablet 10 may cause side effects such as:

Nausea
Stomach discomfort
Constipation
Dizziness
Metallic taste

Management Of Side Effects:

Most side effects are temporary and generally harmless, which improve as your body adjusts to the medicine. However, if you experience any serious side effects or worsening of symptoms, consult your doctor.

Metallic taste: Chewing sugar-free gum, sucking sugar-free mint, or maintaining proper oral hygiene may help reduce unpleasant taste sensations during treatment.
Constipation: Drink adequate fluids and include fibre-rich foods if constipation develops during treatment

Diaraheal Plus Tablet 10 contains the following ingredients:

Loperamide (1.5 mg): Loperamide is an antidiarrhoeal medicine that works by slowing intestinal movement and reducing excessive bowel activity. This allows more water and electrolytes to be absorbed from the intestines, helping improve stool consistency and reduce the frequency of loose stools.
Metronidazole (200 mg): Metronidazole is an antibacterial and antiprotozoal medicine that works by damaging the DNA and essential cellular structures of susceptible anaerobic bacteria and protozoa. This action helps stop the growth and multiplication of infection-causing microorganisms affecting the gastrointestinal tract.

Pregnancy

Use Diaraheal Plus Tablet 10 during pregnancy only if advised by your doctor. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy before starting this medicine.

Breastfeeding

Consult your doctor before taking Diaraheal Plus Tablet 10 while breastfeeding. Small amounts of metronidazole may pass into breast milk. Your doctor will decide whether this medicine is suitable during breastfeeding.

Alcohol

Do not consume alcohol while taking Diaraheal Plus Tablet 10 and for at least 48 hours after completing treatment. Combined use with metronidazole may cause nausea, vomiting, flushing, stomach cramps, headache, or rapid heartbeat.

Liver

Inform your doctor if you have liver disease before taking Diaraheal Plus Tablet 10. Reduced liver function may increase the risk of medicine-related side effects during treatment.

Kidney

Use Diaraheal Plus Tablet 10 with caution if you have kidney disease. Inform your doctor if you have severe kidney-related problems before starting treatment.

Use In Driving And Operating Machinery

Diaraheal Plus Tablet 10 may cause dizziness or reduced alertness in some patients. Avoid driving or operating machinery if you feel dizzy or unwell during treatment.

Allergy

Grapefruit juice: Avoid excessive grapefruit juice consumption while taking loperamide-containing medicines because it may increase loperamide-related side effects in some patients.

Diaraheal Plus Tablet 10 should be used with caution if you have:

Nervous system disorders (Epilepsy, Peripheral neuropathy): Metronidazole may increase the risk of dizziness, numbness, tingling sensations, or other nerve-related side effects in susceptible patients.
Bloody diarrhoea or severe intestinal infection: Loperamide-containing medicines should be used cautiously because slowing bowel movement may worsen certain severe intestinal infections.
Intestinal obstruction or severe constipation: Loperamide may worsen bowel obstruction or severe constipation in susceptible patients.
Heart rhythm disorders: Excessive loperamide exposure may increase the risk of abnormal heart rhythms in susceptible patients.

Daily Dose

The daily dose of Diaraheal Plus Tablet 10 should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The dosage and duration of treatment may vary depending on the severity of infection, medical condition, and response to treatment. Do not exceed the recommended dose without consulting your doctor.

Over Dose

Taking more than the prescribed amount of Diaraheal Plus Tablet 10 may increase the risk of severe constipation, dizziness, stomach discomfort, drowsiness, confusion, breathing difficulty, or heart rhythm-related side effects. Seek immediate medical attention or contact your doctor in case of suspected overdose.

Missed Dose

If you forget to take a dose of Diaraheal Plus Tablet 10, take it as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular schedule. Do not take extra doses to compensate for the missed dose.

Eat freshly prepared, light meals such as rice, toast, bananas, yoghurt, or boiled vegetables if stomach discomfort or diarrhoea persists during illness.
Maintain proper hand hygiene before eating and after using the toilet to help reduce the spread of intestinal infections.
Avoid very oily, spicy, or heavy meals during diarrhoeal illness because they may worsen stomach irritation, bloating, or bowel discomfort.
