Depo Medrol Injection is used to treat a wide range of conditions linked to inflammation and an overactive immune system, including arthritis, severe allergic reactions, certain blood disorders, and immune and hormone-related conditions. It also helps manage brain swelling, flare-ups of multiple sclerosis, and certain skin, eye, lung and bowel conditions.
This injection contains methylprednisolone, a corticosteroid with strong anti-inflammatory and immune-calming effects. It is given by a doctor or nurse, who decides the dose based on your condition. The dose may need to be reduced gradually rather than stopped suddenly, so continue treatment exactly as your care team advises.
As corticosteroids can affect bones, blood sugar and the stomach, some supportive measures can help. These include a diet with enough calcium and vitamin D, limiting added salt, and monitoring blood sugar levels if your doctor advises this.
Before this medicine is given, tell your doctor about any infection, diabetes, high blood pressure, stomach ulcers, or other medicines you take. Report any signs of infection, mood changes, or muscle weakness, as this medicine can lower resistance to infection. Your care team will plan the dose and how long treatment lasts.
