Cordarone X 200 Tablet 10 is used to treat and prevent serious irregular heart rhythms, including atrial fibrillation and life-threatening fast rhythms from the lower chambers of the heart. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing amiodarone, which belongs to a class of medicines called antiarrhythmics.
This medicine is usually started by a heart specialist when other treatments have not worked or are not suitable. It is often started at a higher dose for a short time, then reduced. It stays in the body for a long time, so both its effects and side effects can last for weeks or months after stopping. Take it exactly as prescribed, with or without food.
Protect your skin from sunlight with clothing and a high-factor sunscreen, as the skin can burn easily and may develop a blue-grey colour. Avoid grapefruit juice, and tell every doctor and dentist that you take amiodarone.
This medicine needs regular monitoring, including tests of your thyroid, liver and lungs, eye checks and heart tracings (ECG). Before starting, tell your doctor about any thyroid, liver, lung or eye disease, a slow heartbeat, and all other medicines you take, especially warfarin, digoxin, statins and some antibiotics. Do not take it if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Seek medical help straight away if you have new breathlessness or cough, yellowing of the skin or eyes, blurred vision, fainting or a very slow heartbeat. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
