This medication contains Mupirocin, a unique antibiotic. It works by blocking the specific enzyme that bacteria need to build their proteins. Without these proteins, the bacteria cannot survive or reproduce. Because it works differently than most antibiotics, it is often effective against "tough" germs like MRSA (resistant staph).
Clean and dry the area before applying a small amount of ointment, usually three times a day. You can cover the area with a bandage if needed. Continue using the ointment for the full duration prescribed, even if the skin looks better, to ensure all the bacteria are gone.
