Alzil 5 Tablet 10 is used to relieve the symptoms of mild to moderate Alzheimer's dementia, helping with memory, attention and the ability to manage daily activities. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing donepezil 5mg, which belongs to a class of medicines called cholinesterase inhibitors.
This medicine works by slowing the breakdown of acetylcholine, a chemical messenger that helps nerve cells in the brain communicate. Benefits build up gradually and vary between people, and it does not cure the disease. Take it at bedtime, with water, as prescribed. Your doctor will review how well it is working.
Keeping to a familiar routine, staying physically and mentally active, and having a carer help with medicine reminders can support independence and wellbeing.
Before starting, tell your doctor about any heart rhythm problems, stomach ulcers, asthma or other lung disease, seizures, or difficulty passing urine, and about all other medicines being taken. Tell doctors and dentists about this medicine before any operation that needs anaesthesia. Seek medical help promptly for fainting, a slow heartbeat, black stools, vomiting of blood or a seizure. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
