Waxonil Activ Ear Drops is used to soften and loosen hard, impacted earwax so it can be removed more easily. It is a combination medicine containing paradichlorobenzene, benzocaine, chlorbutol and turpentine oil, and belongs to a group of medicines called cerumenolytics (earwax softeners).
This medicine helps relieve the blocked feeling, discomfort and muffled hearing caused by earwax build-up, and it may also be used to soften wax before ear cleaning by a doctor. Warm the bottle in your hands, tilt your head with the affected ear facing up, put in the drops as directed by your doctor, and stay in that position for a few minutes so the drops can work.
Avoid putting cotton buds, hairpins or other objects into your ear, as this can push wax deeper and damage the eardrum. Keeping water out of the ear while you have a wax blockage can also help.
These drops are for use in the ear only. Do not use them if you have a perforated eardrum, ear discharge, severe ear pain, or have had recent ear surgery, unless your doctor advises. Tell your doctor about any allergies and other ear medicines you use, and if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Stop and contact your doctor if you have severe pain, dizziness, discharge or worsening hearing. Do not stop using this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
