It is commonly prescribed to manage conditions like impetigo (a crusty skin breakout), infected cuts, scrapes, minor wounds, sycosis barbae (infected beard area), and secondary infections in eczema or dermatitis.
It contains sodium fusidate, which belongs to a class of medications called narrow-spectrum antibiotics. It works by entering bacterial cells and stopping them from synthesizing essential proteins required for multiplication and survival, thereby clearing the infection and supporting natural skin repair. A thin layer should be rubbed over the affected area.
To support your skin healing, keep the infected area clean and dry, and avoid picking at crusts or blisters. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap before and after every application, wear loose cotton clothing to minimise friction, and avoid sharing towels or personal items to prevent spreading microbes.
