CompositionSilybon 70 Tablet is used as a supportive treatment in liver conditions such as fatty liver disease, alcohol-related liver damage and chronic hepatitis. It is a single-ingredient herbal medicine containing silymarin 70mg, an extract of milk thistle, and belongs to a group of medicines called hepatoprotectives.
Silymarin has antioxidant properties that may help protect liver cells from damage. The evidence for its benefit is limited, so it is used alongside, not instead of, treating the cause of the liver condition, such as stopping alcohol or managing weight and diabetes. Take it as prescribed, usually after meals.
Stopping or cutting down on alcohol, eating a balanced diet low in saturated fat and sugar, losing excess weight gradually and staying active are the most important steps for liver health. Avoid unnecessary medicines and supplements that can strain the liver.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor about any allergy to plants in the daisy family, such as ragweed or marigold, and about other medicines you take. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Contact your doctor if you notice yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, swelling of the tummy, confusion or unusual tiredness, as these can signal worsening liver disease. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
