Respira Tablet 10 is used to relieve a wet cough with thick mucus and wheezing in conditions such as bronchitis, asthmatic bronchitis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It is a combination medicine containing ambroxol 15mg (a mucolytic), guaifenesin 100mg (an expectorant) and salbutamol 2mg (a bronchodilator).
Ambroxol and guaifenesin thin and loosen sticky phlegm so it is easier to cough up, while salbutamol relaxes the airway muscles to ease wheezing and chest tightness. Take it as prescribed by your doctor, usually for a short time, swallowed whole with water.
Drinking plenty of fluids helps keep mucus thin. Avoiding smoke, dust and cold air, and stopping smoking, reduce airway irritation.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have heart disease or an irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure, an overactive thyroid, diabetes, a stomach ulcer, epilepsy, low potassium, or liver or kidney disease, and about other medicines you take, especially beta blockers and other asthma or cough medicines. It does not replace your prescribed inhalers. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Seek medical help for a fast or irregular heartbeat, chest pain, marked shaking, or worsening breathlessness. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
