CompositionCypon Tablet is an antihistamine tablet used to treat allergic conditions such as hay fever and hives, and also to stimulate appetite in people with poor appetite or weight loss. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing cyproheptadine, and belongs to a class of medicines called antihistamines.
This medicine works by blocking histamine, the chemical that causes sneezing, runny nose and itchy skin, and by acting on the appetite centre in the brain to increase hunger. Take it as prescribed, usually before meals when used to improve appetite.
Eating small, regular, nutrient-rich meals can support healthy weight gain. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you, as it can cause drowsiness.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have glaucoma, difficulty passing urine, asthma, an enlarged prostate, or take sedatives, alcohol or other antihistamines, and if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Seek advice if you have extreme dry mouth, blurred vision or constipation that does not settle.
