CompositionNitrofix SR 30 Tablet is used to prevent chest pain (angina) in people with coronary artery disease. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing isosorbide mononitrate 30mg in a sustained-release form, and belongs to a class of medicines called nitrates.
This medicine relaxes and widens the blood vessels, improving blood flow to the heart and reducing its workload, so angina attacks happen less often. The sustained-release tablet is usually taken once a day in the morning, which leaves a nitrate-free period later in the day so the medicine keeps working. Swallow it whole with water, without crushing or chewing. It does not relieve an attack that has already started.
Not smoking, eating a heart-healthy diet, staying active within your limits and controlling blood pressure and cholesterol help protect your heart. Avoid alcohol, which can increase dizziness.
Do not take this medicine with medicines for erectile dysfunction such as sildenafil, tadalafil or vardenafil, or with riociguat, as together they can cause a dangerous fall in blood pressure. Before starting, tell your doctor if you have low blood pressure, anaemia, a recent head injury, glaucoma, or narrowing of a heart valve, and about other medicines you take. Headache is common at first and usually eases. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Seek medical help if chest pain gets worse or lasts longer. Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly unless your doctor advises you to do so.
