MICROGAT 0.30 % EYE OINTMENT 5 GM is a topical antibiotic medicine used to treat bacterial eye infections. It is primarily prescribed for bacterial conjunctivitis, commonly known as pink eye, helping to eliminate the underlying bacterial cause, clear yellowish discharge, and restore healthy eye function.
It contains gatifloxacin, which belongs to a group of medicines called fourth-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotics. It works by inhibiting essential bacterial enzymes required for DNA replication and growth, thereby killing the pathogens and stopping the infection from spreading. It should be applied carefully to the affected eye as directed.
To assist your eye healing, ensure strict hand hygiene before application to prevent cross-contamination. Avoid wearing cosmetic eye makeup or contact lenses until the infection is fully resolved, and complete the entire prescribed course to avoid antibiotic resistance and disease recurrence.
Before using this ointment, inform your doctor if you have any other eye conditions or severe drug allergies. To maintain absolute sterility, do not let the tube tip touch your eye, fingers, or any external surface. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding before starting this medicine.
