Melmet 500 Tablet is used to manage type 2 diabetes by lowering high blood sugar levels. It is a single-ingredient biguanide medicine containing metformin.
It is also given to women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) to help regulate the menstrual cycle and improve the chances of a healthy pregnancy. Take it with a meal to reduce stomach upset, in the dose, frequency and duration prescribed by your doctor. Continue it regularly, even when you feel well.
Control carbohydrate intake, with smaller portions of rice, roti and sweets, and limit refined foods such as maida. Regular activity and weight management also help.
Before starting, tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, or if you drink alcohol regularly, and about all other medicines, supplements or herbal products you take. Report extreme tiredness, muscle pain or fast breathing promptly, as these can be signs of a rare but serious condition. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding. Follow the prescribed dose, frequency and duration, report persistent or serious side effects, and do not stop the medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
