CompositionMagpep Itr Capsule 10 is a prescription medicine used to treat gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcer disease, acid indigestion and functional dyspepsia in adults. It is a combination medicine containing esomeprazole (which reduces stomach acid) and itopride (which helps the stomach empty faster), and belongs to a class of medicines called proton pump inhibitors combined with prokinetic agents.
This medicine works by esomeprazole switching off the acid pumps in the stomach lining, which lowers acid production, while itopride improves the movement of the gut and speeds up stomach emptying, easing heartburn, upper abdominal pain, acid regurgitation and bloating. Swallow the capsule whole with water, usually on an empty stomach 30 to 60 minutes before a meal in the morning, and do not crush or chew it.
Eating smaller, more frequent meals, avoiding lying down straight after eating, limiting spicy, fatty, acidic or caffeinated foods, avoiding alcohol and smoking, and maintaining a healthy weight can help manage acid reflux.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have severe liver disease, kidney problems, osteoporosis, low magnesium levels or gastrointestinal bleeding. Long-term use should be supervised by a doctor, as it can lower magnesium and vitamin B12 and raise the risk of fractures; contact your doctor for persistent severe stomach pain, persistent diarrhoea or unexplained weight loss.
