Loplock Tablet 10

Loplock Tablet 10 is used to control frequent loose stools and restore regular bowel function in adults and adolescents with diarrhoea.

Uses of Loplock Tablet 10 are:

• Acute Diarrhoea: Controls sudden short-term episodes of loose motions and abdominal cramping.
• Chronic Diarrhoea: Helps manage long-term loose stools associated with chronic bowel conditions.
• Ileostomy Stool Control: Reduces stool volume and frequency in people who have had an ileostomy surgery.

Before you start taking Loplock Tablet 10, here are some simple instructions to follow:

• Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
• Do not crush or chew the tablet.
• You can take this medicine with or without food.
• Do not take more than the doctor recommended without consulting them first.
• Remember, it's important not to stop taking this medicine without speaking to your doctor first.

Loplock Tablet 10 is taken orally.

Loplock Tablet 10 contains loperamide (2 mg), which acts on your body in the following ways:

• μ-Opioid Receptor Agonist: Loperamide acts on the μ-opioid receptors in your intestinal wall. These receptors are part of a complex system that controls how your intestines function.
• Reduces Propulsive Peristalsis: By acting on these receptors, loperamide inhibits the release of certain substances, like acetylcholine and prostaglandins, which produce wave-like movements in the intestines called peristalsis. This slows down this movement.
• Increases Fluid and Electrolyte Absorption: The slowdown in intestinal movement allows more time to absorb fluid and electrolytes from your gut into your body.
• Increases Anal Sphincter Tone: Loperamide also increases the muscle tone of your anal sphincter, effectively controlling stool passage.

The overall effect of these actions is a decrease in gut motility and fluid secretion, leading to firmer stools.

• Keep Loplock Tablet 10 stored at room temperature below 30°C.
• Protect it from light and dampness, so avoid bathrooms and kitchens.
• Don't put the medicine in the fridge or freezer.
• Always keep the medicine out of reach and sight of children.
• Check the expiry date on the packet and ensure you use it before this date.

• If you're managing acute or chronic diarrhoea with Loplock Tablet 10, consider eating a bland diet. Foods like rice, bananas, toast, and applesauce can help firm up loose stools.
• Stay hydrated; loose stools can cause you to lose more water and salt than normal. Drink plenty of fluids, preferably oral rehydration solutions that contain sugar and salts, to replenish these losses.
