Loparet Tablet is used to manage acute diarrhoea, chronic diarrhoea, and traveller's diarrhoea. It helps reduce stool frequency, controls fluid loss, and is also effective in diarrhoea linked to inflammatory bowel disease and in reducing the output from ileostomies.
It contains loperamide 2mg, an opioid receptor agonist that acts on the gut wall to slow intestinal motility and reduce the speed at which contents move through the bowel. This allows more time for water and electrolytes to be reabsorbed, resulting in firmer, less frequent stools.
Take the tablet with a full glass of water after each loose stool, following the dosing instructions given by your doctor. Do not use it in diarrhoea accompanied by fever, blood in the stools, or bloody mucus, and do not exceed the recommended dose. Drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration.
Constipation and abdominal discomfort are the most commonly reported effects. Tell your doctor if diarrhoea does not improve within two days or if you develop abdominal pain or distension during treatment.
