Composition

Ivabradine (10 Mg)

Ivabradin 10 MG Tablet is used to manage symptomatic stable angina pectoris and chronic heart failure in adults. It belongs to the therapeutic class of anti-anginal and cardiovascular agents.

In addition to treating angina, this medicine helps manage chronic heart failure in adults with specific heart conditions. It is particularly useful for patients with a left ventricular ejection fraction (the amount of blood pumped out by the heart's main chamber) of 35% or less who have a resting heart rate of 75 beats per minute or higher.

This medicine should be taken as directed by your doctor. Before starting this medicine, inform your doctor about any pre-existing conditions or other medicines you are currently taking. If you notice any unusual side effects while taking this medicine, notify your doctor immediately. Continue taking the medicine for the full duration prescribed by your doctor for optimal results.

Ivabradin 10 MG Tablet is used for the following:

Treatment of stable angina pectoris
Management of chronic heart failure
Reducing heart rate in coronary artery disease
Improving symptoms in heart failure patients
Decreasing myocardial oxygen demand
Supporting patients unable to take beta-blockers
Helping patients with left ventricular ejection fraction problems
Complementing standard therapy for heart conditions

Follow these instructions while taking Ivabradin 10 MG Tablet:

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
Do not crush, break, or chew the tablet.

Ivabradin 10 MG Tablet is taken orally.

Ivabradin 10 MG Tablet may have the following common side effects:

Hypertension
Phosphenes: Temporary visual sensations of increased brightness, coloured flashes, or multiple images.
Bradycardia: An unusually slow heart rate, typically below 60 beats per minute.
Atrial fibrillation: Irregular and often rapid heart rhythm that can increase the risk of stroke and heart failure.

Managing the Side Effects:

Most side effects are temporary and generally harmless, which resolve on discontinuing the use of Ivabradin 10 MG Tablet. However, if you experience any serious side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms, please consult your doctor.

Phosphenes: Taking this medicine with meals can help reduce the intensity of these visual disturbances.
Bradycardia: Consider taking it in the morning with breakfast to minimise the effects of slow heart rate symptoms throughout the day.

Ivabradin 10 MG Tablet contains ivabradine (10 mg), which works on the body as follows:

Pacemaker Current Inhibition: Ivabradine selectively blocks the IF current in the sinoatrial node, which is the natural pacemaker of your heart that controls your heart rate.
Heart Rate Reduction: By inhibiting this specific current, the medicine effectively slows down your heart rate, allowing your heart more time to fill with blood between beats.
Oxygen Demand Decrease: With a slower heart rate, your heart requires less oxygen to function properly, which is particularly beneficial if you have angina (chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart muscle).
Cardiac Workload Reduction: This medicine reduces the overall workload on your heart by slowing its rate, which helps improve heart function in patients with heart failure.

Pregnancy

Ivabradin 10 MG Tablet is contraindicated during pregnancy. If you are pregnant or planning to conceive, make sure to discuss this with your doctor before starting this medicine.

Breastfeeding

Ivabradin 10 MG Tablet is contraindicated for those who are breastfeeding. It is best to consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

Alcohol

Avoid drinking alcohol while taking Ivabradin 10 MG Tablet.

Liver

Caution is advised while taking Ivabradin 10 MG Tablet in case of mild to moderate liver impairment. It is contraindicated for severe liver diseases. If you have liver problems, discuss them with your doctor before starting this medicine.

Kidney

Caution is advised when driving or operating machinery while taking Ivabradin 10 MG Tablet. This medicine may cause visual disturbances called phosphenes (temporary brightness in your field of vision).

Allergy

Do not take this medicine if you have any known allergies to ivabradine or any other component of this formulation. Before starting this medicine, it is best to inform your doctor about all allergies.

Children

Caution is advised while giving Ivabradin 10 MG Tablet to children under 18 years of age. Always consult your doctor before giving any medicine to a child.

Older Patients

Older patients should take this medicine under medical supervision. Your doctor will guide you based on your overall health status and other medicines you might be taking.

Drug-Drug Interactions

Ivabradin 10 MG Tablet interacts with the following medicines:

CYP3A4 Inhibitors: Strong inhibitors like ketoconazole and clarithromycin are contraindicated as they increase ivabradine levels, raising the risk of bradycardia (abnormally slow heart rate).
Calcium Channel Blockers: Medicines like diltiazem and verapamil are contraindicated as they moderately inhibit CYP3A4, potentially increasing ivabradine concentration in the blood.
QT-Prolonging Medicines: Caution is needed with medicines like amiodarone and sotalol, as they may increase the risk of heart rhythm disturbances when taken with ivabradine.

Drug-Disease Interactions

Ivabradin 10 MG Tablet interacts with the following diseases:

Acute Heart Failure: This medicine is contraindicated in patients with acute decompensated heart failure, as it may worsen the condition.
Liver Disease: Severe liver impairment (Child-Pugh C) is a contraindication, as the medicine may accumulate to dangerous levels.
Heart Conduction Disorders: Those with sick sinus syndrome, sinoatrial block, or third-degree AV block should not use this medicine unless they have a pacemaker.

Daily Dose

The daily dose of Ivabradin 10 MG Tablet should be taken as prescribed by your doctor. Your dosage may change based on your heart rate, condition severity, and response to treatment. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully and never alter your dose without consulting them.

Over Dose

Taking too much Ivabradin 10 MG Tablet may cause an unusually slow heartbeat (bradycardia), low blood pressure, and visual disturbances called phosphenes (seeing flashes of light). Contact your doctor if you experience these symptoms.

Missed Dose

If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular schedule. Never take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Store at room temperature, ideally below 25°C.
Keep the medicine protected from light and moisture.
Store in the original packaging to maintain effectiveness.
Keep out of reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date printed on the package.
