CompositionHydrea 500 Capsule is used to control high white blood cell counts in chronic myeloid leukaemia and certain other cancers, and to manage sickle cell disease, where it reduces the frequency of painful crises and the need for blood transfusions.
It contains hydroxycarbamide (hydroxyurea). In cancer it slows the division of abnormal cells; in sickle cell disease it raises a protective form of haemoglobin (haemoglobin F) that helps keep red blood cells from sickling.
Take it exactly as prescribed, handle the capsules with care and wash your hands afterwards. Drink plenty of water, and attend all appointments for regular blood tests.
Tell your doctor about any kidney or liver problems before use. Report any fever, sore throat or other signs of infection, or unusual bruising or bleeding, promptly.
