Gabapin ME 100 Tablet is used to relieve nerve pain (neuropathic pain) in adults, such as painful diabetic neuropathy and pain after shingles (post-herpetic neuralgia). It is a combination medicine containing gabapentin 100mg, an anticonvulsant used for nerve pain, and methylcobalamin, a form of vitamin B12.
Gabapentin calms overactive pain signals from damaged nerves, while methylcobalamin supports healthy nerve function, especially when vitamin B12 levels are low. The 100mg strength is usually used as a starting dose, which your doctor may increase gradually. Take it as prescribed, with or without food, often at bedtime at first because it can cause drowsiness.
Keeping blood sugar well controlled if you have diabetes, checking your feet daily, staying active and avoiding alcohol can help manage nerve pain.
Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly, as this can cause withdrawal symptoms or worsen pain; your doctor will reduce the dose gradually. It can cause drowsiness and dizziness, so do not drive until you know how it affects you, and avoid alcohol. Taking it with opioid painkillers or sleeping medicines increases the risk of severe drowsiness and slowed breathing. Before starting, tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, breathing problems, or a history of depression or substance misuse, and about other medicines you take. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Seek medical help for slow or shallow breathing, extreme sleepiness, low mood or thoughts of self-harm, or a widespread rash.
