Eptoin Suspension is used to treat and prevent seizures, including generalized tonic-clonic and complex partial types. It works by calming excessive brain activity. Doctors also prescribe it after neurosurgery to reduce seizure risk. Use only as directed by a healthcare provider.

Use Eptoin Suspension as follows:

• Shake the bottle well before use. This ensures the active ingredient, phenytoin, is evenly dispersed in the suspension.

• You can take this medicine with or without food.

Eptoin Suspension contains a single active ingredient, phenytoin (30 mg), which works in the following ways:

• Stabilises Neuronal Membranes: Phenytoin acts on the motor cortex of the brain where it stabilises neuronal membranes. This process helps decrease seizure activity.

• Promotes Sodium Efflux: By promoting the efflux of sodium from neurons, phenytoin reduces neuronal excitability thereby controlling the hypersynchronisation of neuronal firing associated with seizures.

• Prolongs Refractory Period: Phenytoin extends the effective refractory period of neurons, reducing the spread of seizure impulses. This action helps raise the seizure threshold and limit seizure activity.

• Store Eptoin Suspension at room temperature, ideally between 20°C to 25°C.

• Keep the medicine in a tightly closed container to protect it from moisture.

• Always store it away from light and avoid freezing it.

• Place the bottle out of the reach of children.

• Remember to use the suspension before its expiry date.

• Since Eptoin Suspension is used to manage seizures, try to follow a regular sleep schedule as sleep deprivation can trigger seizures.
