Bactoclav Dry Syrup is given orally.

Bactoclav Dry Syrup consists of two active ingredients:

• Amoxicillin (200 mg): This semi-synthetic penicillin-type antibiotic binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located on the bacterial cell wall. When PBPs are inactivated, they interfere with the cross-linkage of peptidoglycan chains necessary for bacterial cell wall strength and rigidity. With the weakening of the bacterial cell wall, cell lysis occurs.

• Clavulanic Acid (28.5 mg): This β-lactamase inhibitor acts as a suicide inhibitor for bacterial β-lactamases. It has a specific affinity for plasmid-mediated β-lactamases commonly found in certain bacteria like Haemophilus influenzae and Staphylococcus aureus. By binding to and inactivating these β-lactamases, clavulanic acid protects amoxicillin from degradation and extends its spectrum of activity to cover β-lactamase producing bacteria.
