CompositionAugmentin Duo Dry Syrup is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections in children, including ear infections, sinus infections, chest infections such as pneumonia, urinary tract infections and skin infections. It is a combination medicine containing amoxicillin, which belongs to a class of medicines called penicillin antibiotics, and clavulanic acid, which belongs to a class called beta-lactamase inhibitors.
This medicine works by killing bacteria with amoxicillin, while clavulanic acid stops some bacteria from breaking amoxicillin down. Shake the bottle well before each dose and give the dose prescribed for your child's weight, using the measuring device provided, at the start of a feed or meal.
The powder is mixed with water by the pharmacist or as the pack directs. Store the mixed medicine in the fridge and discard any left over after seven days. Complete the full course even if your child seems better; it does not work against colds or other viral infections.
Before giving this medicine, tell the doctor if your child has any allergies, or liver or kidney problems. Do not give it if your child is allergic to penicillin. Seek urgent help if your child develops swelling of the face, difficulty breathing or a widespread rash, and contact the doctor about severe or bloody diarrhoea.
