Ambactum 500/500mg Injection 1 is an antibiotic used to treat severe bacterial infections. It is a combination medicine containing cefoperazone, an antibiotic that kills bacteria, and sulbactam, which blocks the enzymes bacteria use to resist antibiotics, and belongs to a class of medicines called third generation cephalosporin antibiotics with beta-lactamase inhibitors.
This medicine works by weakening the bacterial cell wall so the bacteria cannot survive, while sulbactam protects cefoperazone from being broken down by resistant bacteria. It is also used for respiratory, urinary, intra-abdominal, gynaecological, skin and soft tissue, and bone and joint infections, and for septicaemia. It is given into a vein or muscle by a doctor or healthcare professional.
Complete the full course your doctor prescribes, even if you feel better, so the infection does not return. Tell your healthcare team if you develop severe diarrhoea.
Before receiving this medicine, tell your doctor if you are allergic to cephalosporins, penicillins or other antibiotics, or if you have liver or kidney problems. It works only against bacterial infections, and using antibiotics when they are not needed can lead to antibiotic resistance.
