P D Col Eye Capsule 10 is used for the management of acute bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye or Madras eye) caused by susceptible organisms like Staphylococcus aureus or Haemophilus influenzae. It provides relief from symptoms such as redness, itching, tearing, foreign body sensation, and mucopurulent discharge.

To use P D Col Eye Capsule 10 effectively and safely, follow these instructions:

• Always wash your hands thoroughly before using this medication.
• Tilt your head backwards and gently pull down the lower eyelid to create a pocket.
• To use Aplicap, cut the end with a clean instrument, position the tip of the applicap near your eye and squeeze a ribbon of ointment into the pocket.
• Close your eye gently and move it around to spread the medication.
• After usage, discard the applicap and wash your hands again.

P D Col Eye Capsule 10 contains chloramphenicol (1%). The mechanism of action of this active ingredient is as follows:

• Inhibits Protein Synthesis: Chloramphenicol works by binding to a part in bacteria known as the 50S ribosomal subunit. This prevents an enzyme called peptidyl transferase from connecting amino acids together to form peptides, which are vital parts of proteins.
• Halts Bacterial Growth: By disrupting this process, chloramphenicol effectively stops the bacteria from making proteins that are crucial for their growth and replication. This halting action primarily has a bacteriostatic effect on bacteria, meaning that it inhibits their growth without necessarily killing them.
• Effective against Various Bacteria: Chloramphenicol’s broad-spectrum antibiotic property means it can work against a variety of bacteria, making it effective in managing several superficial ocular bacterial infections.
