Nicotex Mint Plus 4mg Sugar Free Chewing Gum is used to help adults stop smoking by relieving nicotine cravings and withdrawal symptoms. It contains nicotine 4mg and belongs to a group of medicines called nicotine replacement therapy (NRT).
The 4mg strength is usually for people who smoke more than 20 cigarettes a day or who smoke their first cigarette within 30 minutes of waking. Use the 'chew and park' method: chew slowly until you notice a strong taste or tingling, then rest the gum between your cheek and gum until the tingling fades, and repeat for about 30 minutes. Do not use more than the maximum number of pieces a day stated on the pack, and gradually reduce use over about 3 months.
Setting a quit date, identifying your smoking triggers, avoiding places where you used to smoke and getting support from a stop-smoking service, family or friends greatly improve your chances of quitting. Avoid acidic drinks such as coffee, tea or fizzy drinks for 15 minutes before and while chewing, as they reduce nicotine absorption.
Do not smoke while using this gum. Before using it, speak to your doctor if you have had a recent heart attack or stroke, have an irregular heartbeat, uncontrolled high blood pressure, a stomach ulcer, diabetes, an overactive thyroid, or problems with your jaw or dentures. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, try to quit without medicine first, and use it only on medical advice. Keep it out of reach of children, as even small amounts of nicotine can be dangerous for them. Stop and seek medical advice if you have a fast or irregular heartbeat, severe nausea, dizziness or chest pain.
