SULFAZEE 500 TABLET 15 is used for the following:

• Treatment of mild to moderate ulcerative colitis

• Maintenance of ulcerative colitis remission

• Management of rheumatoid arthritis

• Managing symptoms of Crohn's disease

• Treatment of polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis

• Managing peripheral joint symptoms in ankylosing spondylitis

• Treatment of psoriatic arthritis with peripheral involvement

Follow these instructions while taking SULFAZEE 500 TABLET 15

• Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water.

• Take this medicine after food to reduce stomach upset.

• Maintain good hydration throughout the day whilst taking this medicine.

• Do not crush or chew the tablet.

• If your tablet has a score line, only split it if your doctor or pharmacist confirms it is appropriate.

• Store at room temperature, away from heat and moisture.

SULFAZEE 500 TABLET 15 is taken orally.

SULFAZEE 500 TABLET 15 contains sulfasalazine (500 mg), which works on the body as follows:

• Prodrug conversion: Sulfasalazine is split by bacteria in your colon into two components—5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA) and sulfapyridine—each with different effects on your body.

• Anti-inflammatory action: The 5-ASA component works locally in the colon's lining to reduce inflammation, which is particularly helpful in managing ulcerative colitis.

• NF-κB inhibition: Sulfasalazine blocks a protein called NF-κB, which controls genes that promote inflammation, including tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), helping to reduce inflammatory processes in your body.

• Immunomodulation: It affects your immune system by modifying B-cell antibody production, helping to regulate overactive immune responses that can cause inflammation in conditions like rheumatoid arthritis.

• Store SULFAZEE 500 TABLET 15 at room temperature.

• Keep the tablets in their original packaging, tightly closed to protect from moisture.

• Store away from direct heat and sunlight.

• Keep out of sight and reach of children.

• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the package.

• Drink plenty of water throughout the day when taking SULFAZEE 500 TABLET 15 to reduce the risk of kidney stones and help manage symptoms of ulcerative colitis.

• Include plenty of green leafy vegetables, beans, and citrus fruits in your diet, as sulfasalazine can reduce folate absorption in your body.
