CompositionRentrex 20 Capsule 10 is a retinoid medicine used to treat severe nodular and cystic acne that has not responded to other treatments, including antibiotics. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing isotretinoin, and belongs to a class of medicines called retinoids.
This medicine works by shrinking the oil glands in the skin and reducing oil production, which prevents clogged pores, calms inflammation and reduces new acne spots and scarring. Take it with a meal, swallow the capsule whole and use it exactly as your doctor prescribes, under close medical supervision. In some people acne does not return after the course ends.
Dry skin and lips are common, so use a good moisturiser and lip balm, and use sunscreen as your skin may burn more easily. Avoid waxing and harsh skin treatments while taking it.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have depression or any mood problems, liver disease, high cholesterol or triglycerides, or take other medicines or vitamin A supplements. It causes severe birth defects and must never be taken in pregnancy, so women who could become pregnant need a negative pregnancy test and effective contraception before, during and after treatment, and should tell their doctor straight away if they miss a period.
