Regaine 5% Solution is used to help regrow hair and slow further hair loss in men with male pattern baldness (hereditary hair loss) on the top of the scalp. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing minoxidil 5%, which belongs to a class of medicines called topical hair growth stimulants.
This medicine is thought to work by widening blood vessels around the hair follicles and prolonging the hair growth phase. Apply the recommended amount to the dry scalp twice a day, as directed on the pack or by your doctor, spreading it over the thinning area, and wash your hands afterwards. It can take 2 to 4 months to see results, and regrowth is lost within a few months of stopping.
Some hair shedding in the first few weeks is common and usually means new hair is starting to grow. Let the solution dry before styling or going to bed, and avoid getting it in the eyes.
This solution is for use on the scalp only and is not for people under 18. Women should use it only if their doctor advises, as lower strengths are usually recommended. Do not use it if your hair loss is sudden, patchy or has no family history, if your scalp is red, sore or sunburnt, or if you have heart disease or low blood pressure, unless your doctor advises. Stop using it and contact your doctor if you have chest pain, a fast heartbeat, faintness, dizziness, sudden weight gain or swelling of the hands or feet. The solution is flammable, and it is harmful to children and pets, especially cats, so keep it out of their reach. Do not stop using this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
