It contains prednisolone, a corticosteroid (glucocorticoid). Take it exactly as prescribed, usually with food to reduce stomach upset; the dose depends on the condition being treated. Do not stop it suddenly after prolonged use, as the dose usually needs to be reduced gradually.
A balanced diet that is not too high in salt, with adequate calcium and vitamin D and regular activity, helps offset effects on weight, blood pressure, blood sugar and bones during longer courses.
Tell your doctor about any infection, diabetes, high blood pressure, stomach ulcers or osteoporosis before starting, and about other medicines you take. Avoid contact with people who have chickenpox or measles if you have not had them. Report signs of infection, mood changes or severe stomach pain.
