Pantazole 40 Injection is used to treat acid-related conditions of the stomach and food pipe, such as gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and peptic ulcers, when medicines cannot be taken by mouth. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing pantoprazole, which belongs to a class of medicines called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs).
This medicine is also used to manage Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, a rare condition in which the stomach makes far too much acid. It lowers stomach acid and helps the lining of the stomach and food pipe heal. It is given by a healthcare professional as a slow injection or drip into a vein, usually for a short time until you can switch to tablets. Your doctor will decide the dose and how long treatment lasts.
Avoiding spicy, fatty or acidic food, cutting down on alcohol and tobacco, and not lying down soon after meals can help ease acid symptoms and support healing once you are able to eat normally.
Before treatment, tell your doctor if you have liver disease, low magnesium levels or osteoporosis, and about any other medicines you take. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Report persistent diarrhoea, muscle cramps, an irregular heartbeat, or pain or swelling at the injection site to your doctor. Do not stop the treatment unless your doctor advises you to do so.
