Gemfrac Injection 1 is used to treat osteoporosis in people at high risk of fractures. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing teriparatide, which belongs to the class of medications called parathyroid hormone (PTH) analogues.
This medicine is used to treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and may also be prescribed for osteoporosis associated with prolonged glucocorticoid treatment. Osteoporosis causes bones to become weak and more likely to fracture. Gemfrac Injection 1 stimulates new bone formation by increasing the activity of bone-forming cells called osteoblasts, thereby helping improve bone mineral density and reduce fracture risk.
Gemfrac Injection 1 is given as a subcutaneous injection. It may be self-administered after appropriate training by a healthcare professional. Use it exactly as prescribed and do not change the dose or duration of treatment without consulting your doctor.
Tell your doctor if you have high blood calcium levels, severe kidney problems, Paget's disease, bone cancer or cancer that has spread to the bones before starting treatment. Dizziness or a fall in blood pressure on standing may occur after administration, particularly with the first few doses. Sit or lie down if you feel dizzy or light-headed after injecting the medicine and seek medical advice if symptoms are severe or persistent.
