Epilex Chrono 300 Tablet is used to control seizures in epilepsy, to manage manic episodes in bipolar disorder, and to help prevent migraine headaches in adults and children aged over ten. It contains sodium valproate in a controlled-release form.
Sodium valproate works by increasing levels of a calming brain chemical called GABA and steadying abnormal electrical activity in the brain, which reduces seizure frequency, helps stabilise mood in mania, and lowers the frequency of migraine attacks with regular use.
Take this tablet at the same time each day, swallowed whole with water, and do not crush or chew it, since it is a controlled-release formulation.
This medicine must not be used in pregnancy, as it carries a high risk of birth defects and developmental problems in an unborn baby; women of childbearing potential need specific counselling and contraception advice before starting treatment. Do not stop this medicine suddenly, as this can trigger seizures.
