Cg Mez 20 Mg Tablet 10 is used to manage gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other conditions caused by too much stomach acid. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing omeprazole, and belongs to a class of medicines called proton pump inhibitors.
This medicine works by lowering the amount of acid your stomach makes, which helps relieve heartburn, acid reflux and stomach discomfort. It is also used for peptic ulcers and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Take it before food, usually in the morning, and swallow the tablet whole with water without crushing or chewing it.
Eating smaller meals and avoiding spicy, fatty or acidic foods, caffeine and alcohol can help stop reflux getting worse alongside this treatment. Avoid lying down straight after eating, and keep the head of your bed slightly raised. Stopping smoking and keeping a healthy weight may also help.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and about all other medicines you take. Long-term use may lower magnesium and vitamin B12 levels and may raise the risk of bone fractures, especially in older people, so your doctor may check these. It is not recommended for people under 18 unless a doctor advises, and you should seek urgent help if you have difficulty swallowing, black stools, vomiting blood or unexplained weight loss.
