It contains hydrochlorothiazide, a thiazide diuretic (a water tablet). It works by helping the kidneys remove excess salt and water, which lowers blood pressure and eases swelling.
Take it as prescribed, preferably in the morning so you are not woken at night to pass urine. Standing up slowly helps avoid dizziness.
Tell your doctor about any kidney or liver problems, gout or diabetes before starting. Regular blood tests check your kidneys and salts. Report marked dizziness, muscle cramps or signs of dehydration.
