Betnovate Cream is used to relieve redness, itching and swelling in inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing betamethasone valerate, a potent corticosteroid (steroid), and belongs to a class of medicines called topical corticosteroids.
This medicine is also used for other steroid-responsive skin conditions, such as lichen planus, discoid lupus and severe reactions to insect bites. Apply a thin layer to the affected skin and rub in gently, as directed by your doctor, usually for a short course to control flare-ups.
Moisturising regularly with a fragrance-free emollient, using a mild cleanser and avoiding known triggers can help reduce flare-ups.
This cream is for use on the skin only. Before using it, tell your doctor if you have a skin infection, acne, rosacea or a rash around the mouth, and about other skin products you use. Do not use it on the face, on large areas or under airtight dressings unless your doctor advises, and use it with care in children. Long use can thin the skin and cause stretch marks. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not stop using this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
