Azifort 200 Mg Oral Suspension 15 Ml is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections in children, including ear infections (otitis media), throat infections (tonsillitis) and chest infections (bronchitis). It is a single-ingredient medicine containing azithromycin, and belongs to a class of medicines called macrolide antibiotics.
This medicine works by stopping bacteria from growing so that your child's body defences can clear the infection. It is also used for certain bacterial infections of the skin and nose. Shake the bottle well before each use, measure the dose prescribed by your child's doctor carefully with the spoon or cup provided, and give it with food if it upsets your child's stomach.
Encourage your child to rest and drink plenty of fluids to support recovery, and maintain good hand hygiene to help prevent the infection spreading to others. Antibiotics only work against bacterial infections, so complete the full course even if your child seems better, to clear the infection and reduce the risk of antibiotic resistance.
Before giving this medicine, tell your child's doctor if your child has a known allergy to azithromycin or other macrolide antibiotics, or any heart rhythm problems. Contact your child's doctor promptly if your child develops a skin rash, swelling, difficulty breathing, or severe or watery diarrhoea.
