CompositionAugmentin Injection is used to treat moderate to severe bacterial infections, such as infections of the chest, urinary tract, skin, bones and joints, and infections inside the abdomen. It is a combination antibiotic medicine containing amoxicillin, a penicillin, and clavulanic acid, which helps amoxicillin work against bacteria that would otherwise resist it.
This medicine is also used to help prevent infection during certain surgical procedures. It is given by a healthcare professional as a slow injection or drip into a vein, usually when tablets are not suitable because the infection is severe or you cannot take medicines by mouth. Your doctor will decide the dose and may switch you to tablets once you improve.
Getting plenty of rest and drinking enough fluids, unless your doctor advises otherwise, can support recovery.
Before treatment, tell your doctor if you are allergic to penicillin, cephalosporins or any other antibiotic, have had jaundice or liver problems with this medicine before, have glandular fever, or have kidney disease, and about other medicines you take. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Tell your healthcare team straight away if you notice a rash, swelling, breathing difficulty, severe diarrhoea, or yellowing of the skin or eyes. Do not stop the treatment unless your doctor advises you to do so.
