CompositionAmintoz Injection 1ml is used to treat and prevent vitamin B1 (thiamine) deficiency when it needs to be corrected quickly or tablets cannot be taken. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing thiamine hydrochloride, and belongs to a group of medicines called vitamin supplements.
This medicine is used to treat beriberi and Wernicke's encephalopathy, a serious brain condition caused by lack of thiamine that can cause confusion, unsteady walking and eye movement problems, often linked to long-term heavy alcohol use or poor nutrition. It is also given to people at risk, such as those with severe vomiting, malabsorption or on long-term dialysis. It is given by a healthcare professional as an injection into a muscle or a slow drip into a vein, usually before glucose-containing fluids are started.
Eating a balanced diet that includes whole grains, pulses, nuts, seeds, eggs and meat helps maintain thiamine levels. If alcohol is a factor, seeking support to cut down or stop is important for recovery.
Before receiving this injection, tell your doctor about any previous allergic reaction to thiamine or vitamin injections, and about other medicines you take. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Rarely, injections of thiamine can cause a serious allergic reaction, so you will be watched after the dose; tell your healthcare team straight away if you feel itchy, breathless, faint or have swelling of the face or throat. Do not stop the treatment unless your doctor advises you to do so.
