Britam Tablet is used to control focal-onset (partial) seizures, with or without spreading to both sides of the brain, in people with epilepsy. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing brivaracetam 50mg, which belongs to a class of medicines called antiepileptics.
This medicine is usually added to other epilepsy medicines when seizures are not fully controlled. It binds to a protein in the brain involved in releasing nerve signals, helping to calm abnormal electrical activity. Take it daily at the same times, with or without food, and never change your dose without medical advice.
Keeping regular sleep, avoiding alcohol and never missing doses help control seizures. Keep a seizure diary to share with your doctor.
Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly, as this can trigger seizures. It can cause drowsiness and dizziness, so do not drive until you know how it affects you. Before starting, tell your doctor if you have liver disease or a history of depression, anxiety or other mental health problems, and about other medicines you take, especially rifampicin and levetiracetam. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding. Tell your doctor straight away if you or your family notice low mood, irritability, aggression, unusual behaviour or thoughts of self-harm.
